Court Approves Claims Deadline
On July 14, 2011, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin set a bar date for anyone who wishes to make a clergy abuse claim against the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in the Chapter 11 reorganization process. That date is February 1, 2012.
If you have been abused by a clergy member, teacher, deacon, employee, volunteer or other person connected with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, you must file a claim by February 1, 2012, 4 p.m. (Prevailing Central Time).
The archdiocese will advertise this bar date in both local and national publications including but not limited to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, The Chicago Tribune, and USA Today, with the first placement beginning July 17, 2011. The extensive advertising campaign is being undertaken to ensure that anyone with a potential claim is aware of the deadline and has adequate time to file.
For more information, including a definition of abuse, an abuse survivor proof of claim form, and other bar date resources, visit www.archmil.org/reorg/bardate.htm. Information and forms will also be available in Spanish and Hmong languages and a sign language video will be posted.
