Pope Elevates Milwaukee Native to Cardinal
Archbishop James Michael Harvey Joins the Distinguished College of Cardinals
MILWAUKEE – The Archdiocese of Milwaukee joins the world in celebrating the elevation of native son, Archbishop James Michael Harvey, to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. With this new designation, he becomes Cardinal-elect Harvey.
Here is today’s statement from Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki:
The news of Archbishop Harvey’s elevation to the College of Cardinals is a blessing to the Church and to Milwaukee. Archbishop Harvey has been a dedicated and faithful servant to the universal Church and it is a tribute to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee that a native son has been named a Cardinal of the Church. Cardinal-elect Harvey has always kept Milwaukee his home and made sure he remained connected to the Church of his home diocese. I am personally grateful to Archbishop Harvey for his ongoing support and assistance to me and we are proud that the faithful of our archdiocese have had a role in his formation as priest, bishop and now cardinal.
