Anne Thompson, is a correspondent for NBC Nightly News covering environmental affairs and the Vatican. In 2010 she lived on a houseboat in Venice, Louisiana for five months while covering the BP Oil Spill. And, in 2013, she spent 38 straight days in Rome covering the resignation of Benedict XVI and the election of Pope Francis. Thompson began her broadcasting career at WNDU-TV in South Bend, Indiana, in 1979. She joined NBC News in 1997 reporting on a variety of stories. Raised and educated in Europe, she received her high school diploma from the International School in Brussels, Belgium. She has an B.A, degree in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame, where she was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2010.
