The college of consultors is a diocesan body of six to 12 priests, chosen by the archbishop from among the members of the diocesan council of priests. Members are appointed to five-year, rotating, renewable terms. Canon law requires the archbishop to consult with his college of consultors before making certain decisions.
When a diocese becomes vacant, the college of consultors is to elect a diocesan administrator within eight days unless the Holy See provides otherwise.
