Job Description for Classroom Teacher

Job Summary

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.

A. Educational/Experiential Requirements

1. Bachelor’s Degree in teaching or a relevant field.  

2. Be appropriately certified or certifiable by the State of Wisconsin 

3.  Participates in and meets the requirements of Sustaining the Mission and maintains the appropriate  level of certification.

 B. Skills and Qualifications

  3. Enthusiasm for teaching

  4. Mature judgment and emotional stability

  5. Sensitivity to loving, understanding and working with children and adults of varying temperaments.

  6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 

  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others

  8. Good physical and mental health

  9. Adheres to Code of Ethical Conduct

  10. Completion of background check and Safe Environment training

  11. Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.  

  12. Professionalism in attire, communication and demeanor

C.     Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:  

  1. Share and support the philosophy, goals and objectives of the school

  2. Teach and maintain a high level of enthusiasm and commitment to sharing Catholic Christian values

  3. Create a faith-filled environment that engages the whole student

  4. Promote a welcoming classroom environment that encourages an interdisciplinary and respectful culture of learning.

  5. Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. 

  6. Communicate high expectations for learning

  7. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

  8. Observe and evaluate student's performance and development

  9. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.  Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.

  10. Supervise student activities within the classroom and other areas as assigned, enforcing high expectations for student behavior at all times.

  11. Provide appropriate feedback on work.

  12. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. Adapt instructional content and teaching strategies to suit individual and class needs.

  13. Communicate via phone, email, and in person with families regarding students’ academic progress.

  14. Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails. 

  15. Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.  Prepare required reports on students and activities.

  16. Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings. 

  17. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.  Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.  

  18. Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.

  19. Other duties as assigned

D.  Work Day 

  1. The eight hour workday is coordinated with the Principal or HR Director. Hours are typically 7:25 AM arrival with the end of the day at 3:30 PM.

  2. Attend all faculty and other meetings as required

E.   ADA Physical Requirements:  

  1. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.  

  2. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with hands and arms. 

  3.  Close vision required for paperwork and computer.  

  4. Able to utilize a computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone. 

  5. This role functions in an office environment and uses standard office equipment. 

  6. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
