Primary Function of this Position
Under the direction of the principal, the purpose of this position is to respect Catholic values in Christian formation by exemplifying Catholic living, both in and out of the classroom. Because Catholic schools educate their students to promote the kingdom of God, it is important that all teachers are role models for students. The teacher is accountable to the principal to provide education to the grades and/or subjects assigned, to implement the St. Dominic Catholic School mission, to follow the policies of the St. Dominic Catholic Parish and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, and adhere to the directives set by the Principal.
Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities
- Upholds and models the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Demonstrates a professional demeanor and attitude in alignment with Gospel values and school mission
- Implements instruction that is consistent with the philosophy of St. Dominic Catholic School
- Effectively plans the presentation of subject matter to meet the needs, interests and abilities of all the students as it pertains to the curriculum of the Office of Schools as part of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and supports the learning needs of every student by establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities, observing, evaluating and providing feedback on student’s performance as well as establishing and enforcing rules and procedures, maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Supervises students in proper use of school materials and equipment
- Assists with the supervision of students and assumes responsibility for supervision of students when assigned by the principal to include escorting children to and from specials classes and recess
- Participates in the cycle of review using the Teacher Effectiveness Framework
- Attends all faculty, in-service, and school meetings where applicable
- Takes responsibility for professional growth
- Maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents in a prompt and courteous manner
- Collaborates with the rest of faculty in planning, developing, evaluating, and maintaining school policies and practices
- Integrates technology into all facets of the curriculum and daily practice
- Attends Archdiocesan Convention In-Service programs and professional learning opportunities as directed
- Contributes to the student’s sense of self-worth as a Christian person; foster an apostolic consciousness in students and influence the spiritual development of students. Adheres to Code of Ethical Conduct and Safeguarding All God’s Children
- Demonstrates a commitment towards spiritual growth in the context of the Catholic school
- Educates the child in all academic areas, building on their potential capabilities and skills (intellectual, physical, emotional, and social)
- Maintains grades and prepares grade reports, records daily attendance of students and completes all required forms and reports
- Serves beyond the classroom in school committees/activities/events as it relates to a positive school environment
- Effectively follows all directives of the School Principal
- Performs other duties as requested
