Child Ministry Coordinator

Ministry Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Recruitment, training and ongoing support and supervision of volunteers including catechists, aides, substitutes and hall monitors. Confirms and documents that all volunteers are in compliance with Safeguarding All God's Family Program of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. 
  2. Management of the Sunday School program to ensure appropriate catechesis in all classes.  Prepares and implements syllabi. Must be present at all classes. Schedules and equips all catechists including substitutes. Teaches classes as needed.  Trains, schedules and supervises volunteer hall monitors. Resolves discipline issues by working with catechists, students and parents. Assures appropriate supervision of minors while on parish grounds or at a parish sponsored event. Responsiblie for the physical builidng-security, locking, cleanliness, etc.
  3. Prepares curriculum and supplies for all areas of Child Ministry.
  4. Orders and maintains inventory of faith formation materials and supplies.
  5. Implements the Safeguarding All God's Family program's curriculum requirements with documentation.
  6. Assists in planning, leading and facilitating Sacrament Meetings for parents and children.
  7. Meets regularly with the Director of Child Ministry. Works in collaboration with other parish staff and members of the parish communities.
  8. Works with the administrative assistant to ensure proper registration, attendance and other records are maintained.
  9. Works with the Director to develop and maintain a budget for Child Ministry.
  10. Provides opportunities for parent engagement and dialogue to strengthen their roles as faith leaders and primary educators in their families.
  11. Assists in reviewing and selecting of curriculum.
  12. Has a presence at parish events.
  13. Responds to inquiries of those interested in the Catholic faith. Invites and encourages active participation.
  14. Schedules events and calendars as requested.
  15. Explores ways to enhance the curriculum through activities such as speakers, crafts, filed trips, etc.
  16. Looks for and promotes opportunities for grade school children and their families to participate in service.
  17. Other duties as assigned.


The qualified candidate will:

  1. be an active, practicing Catholic.
  2. have a Bachelor's degree (or working toward a degree) in Religious Studies, Theology or Education. Candidates with a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning or equivalent experience will be considered.
  3. have previous experience as a catechist or teacher working with children. 
  4. have taken (or is willing to take) the Safe Environment class and have a background check completed.
  5. have excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  6. have the ability to manage a variety of activities, tasks and details efficiently.
  7. be pastoral, collaborative and flexible.
  8. possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  9. have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  10. have the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  11. share the faith with those around them
