Coordinator of Child and Youth Mininstries

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • Coordinates the catechesis of children and youth in parish and school ministries.
  • Recruits, screens, trains, enriches, and recognizes catechists and volunteers.
  • Promotes certification of catechists according to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee guildelines.
  • Meets regularly with catechists, teachers and volunteer teams, e.g., spiritual formation/training workshops, meetings and rehearsals.
  • Has a written catechist and volunteer schedule with backups.
  • Assists with the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and formation department inventory.
  • Attends staff meetings and other meetings at the request of the Pastor or supervisor.

Faith Formation:

In collaboration with the Pastor and Evangelization Department, the coordinator will manifest the vision for catechetical and sacramental life of the parish in the following areas:

  • Christian Formation Program for grades K3-12th.
  • Sacrament preparation for First Communion and Confirmation.
  • Parish School for grades K3-8th.
  • Youth Group for grades 6th-12th.

Ministry of Education:

  • Collaborate with school principal and evangelization department in ongoing catechesis and/or retreats for staff and catechists.
  • Regularly communicates with families and parents (parish and school) in regards to the ways the domestic church can be strengthened to support their children in their faith journey.

Evangelization:

  • Welcomes, educates, spiritually enriches and grows the parish comminity via new and existing programs.
  • Responds to inquiries of those interested in the Catholic faith.
  • Promotes evangelization programs and educational opportunities for parish evangelists and Life Long Faith committee.

Communications:

  • Serves as one of the links for parishioners, parents, school families, parish staff, teachers and catechists/volunteers regarding faith formation.
  • Participates in Faith Formation Committee.
  • Assists with scheduling events and respective calendars.
  • Creatively uses parish communication vehicles including social media.

Other:

  • Works with Pastor and liturgist in the area of liturgy and music for liturgical celebrations and integration into the Saturday/Sunday Masses.
  • Collaborates with the principal, school staff, and parish staff to be present and united with parish catechesis.
  • Visbily engages at parish events.
  • Fosters positive public relations in and outside the parish/school.
  • Networks with other leaders of children and youth.
  • Attends respective Archdiocesan and Deanery workshops/programs, as needed.
  • Weekend and evening hours are required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor and supervisor.

  • Employee is expected to take initiative and make decisions based on the mission and vision of the parish and direction from the Pastor and/or supervisor.  Among these is appropriate programming for parish community and maintaining responsible budget.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge

  1. Committed to growth as a disciple.
  2. BA or higher in Theology or other field with significant theological/religious education training.
  3. Experience and/or training in catechesis. Cathechetical certification preferred.
  4. Working knowledge of MS Office programs.
  5. Valid driver's license for the State of Wisconsin is preferred

Skills

  1. Professional working attitude and collaborative approach.
  2. Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  3. Strong organizational and presentation skills.

  1. Active, practicing, faithful Catholic; able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church.

  4. Ability to initiate, multitask and prioritize.
  5. Maintain appropriate and consisten engagement and discipline strategies for young people.
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
