Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Pastoral Associate and in regular, open collaboration with the Faith Formation team and related committees, the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will

  • direct faith formation programs for sixth grade through high school, including Confirmation preparation
  • recruit, supervise, and serve as a training resource for catechists and other volunteers
  • continually evangelize both active and inactive youth and young adults through ongoing planning, promotion, and implementation of relevant faith formation programs, activities, and events
  • provide opportunities for parent engagement and dialog to strengthen their role as faith leaders for their children and wider communities
  • ensure the supervision of minors while on parish/school grounds for catechetical activities
  • effectively manage student behavior and work with parents accordingly
  • organize and chaperone the annual high school mission trip
  • plan and implement the annual 8th grade school trip to Washington, DC
  • manage the parish’s altar server guild, including recruiting, training, team-building, and scheduling
  • attend regular Faith Formation team meetings and staff meetings and report on program status
  • maintain clear and effective communication with youth, parents, and young adults
  • prepare and manage the annual budget for youth and young adult ministry
  • work collaboratively and professionally with all parish staff
  • foster positive public relations within and outside of the parish/school
  • keep informed on teen culture—specifically, the needs, interests, attitudes, and beliefs of youth—to assist in making informed decisions for appropriate ministries
  • create operating procedures for each aspect of the position
  • attend Archdiocesan workshops/programs as requested
  • competently and promptly carry out other duties as assigned


Accountability: The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry reports to the Pastoral Associate and ultimately to the Pastor while serving as an integral member of the Faith Formation team and the entire parish staff.



  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, theology, or a related field
  • Certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning preferred
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a parish or Catholic school setting as a teacher, administrator, or catechist
  • Current Safeguarding All of God’s Family certification or the ability to complete it immediately upon hire
  • Knowledge of the Faith, including familiarity with the Scriptures and Church teaching. The ideal candidate can use apologetics to defend the Faith and exegesis to proclaim the Gospel.
