Purpose:  This position monitors and enforces the school behavioral code of conduct related to policies and procedures in matters of discipline, uniform, and attendance. The Dean of students is responsible for supervision of students in school common areas as well as classroom situations. The position will work closely with the Principal and student services team to ensure consistent and effective communication exists with all parents of SJA students. This position will coordinate student life, extra-curricular activities, and overall culture of the school community.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. School Culture
    1. Strives to achieve the mission, philosophy, and goals of Catholic education through the development of a positive school culture.
    2. Coordinate with faculty, clubs, and student organizations moderators for school-wide events
    3. Promotes an atmosphere and environment based on Catholic faith, traditions, and virtutes.
    4. Coordinates the annual revisions and updates of the student handbook
    5. Holds all students accountable to the policies identified in the student handbook to promote a positive school culture
    6. Actively creates a sense of pride and school spirit with the students
    7. Coordinates morning announcements with the Student Services Team
    8. Works in collaboration with faculty and various community partners to support positive school culture.
    9. Creates and leads student government organization, school dances, and Den Planning.
    10. Coordinates programming of student organization/clubs; collaborates with faculty moderators and student leaders.
  2. Student Behavior
    1. Enforces the disciplinary and attendance policies of St. Joan Antida High School.
    2. Manages and response to attendance patterns
    3. Manages behavior tracking system, Kickboard.
    4. Proactively manages and responds to attendance patterns of individual students and the school community.
    5. Directs faculty in supervision of student behavior and discipline procedures.
    6. Supervises and maintains discipline in accordance with the Student Handbook at all student activities on and off campus.
    7. Maintains files of student records relating to behaviors, attendance patterns, medical records, and student activity involvement.
    8. Conducts observations of student behaviors in the classroom to promote a culture of shared responsibility with the faculty.
    9. Works collaboratively with Principal, Counselors and Dean of Academics to develop plans for student success.
    10. Coordinates meetings with parents, faculty, and others to discuss behavior and attendance concerns.
  3. Other: Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 3 – 5 years of teaching experience
  • Effective oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented and able to work on multiple projects within specific timeframes with varying deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience using MS Office software, internal databases, the Internet, and email required.
  • Ability to maintain extremely confidential, disciplinary, and attendance data.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Understanding of the disciplinary code and the steps required for the process.
  • Spanish fluency desired but not required
  • WI administrator license desired but not required
  • Experience in teaching, counseling, or administration of a secondary school preferred
