Faith Formation Director

Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities

  • Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Under pastor’s supervision, collaborates with pastor and other parish staff members to integrate his/her own area of responsibility with the overall parish endeavor.

  • Develops coordinated approach to total parish religious education and collaborates with catechetical staff in formulating a statement of catechetical purpose

  • Researches religious education needs and preferences of the people of the parish, designs catechetical programs to meet those needs, from early childhood to adults, in accord with the principles enunciated in materials for these programs.

  • Oversees the recruitment of catechists and support staff, and provides them with continuity and support.

  • Directs the work of the religious education professional and support staff.

  • Acts as executive officer administering the policies for religious education with the assistance of policy-making board

  • Undertakes ongoing evaluation in the light of goals and objectives based on the catechetical statement of purpose.

  • Prepares and manages religious education budget in collaboration with the pastor and Christian Formation staff.

  • Ensures that accurate records are kept of catechists, children, families, and sacraments.

  • Serves as a communication link between the catechetical program and the rest of the parish, including the catechetical staff, parents, and the parish at large.

  • Provides catechetical consultation to the other members of the parish staff.

 

  • Worship Responsibilities

  • Ensures that opportunities are available for liturgical worship services in all religious education programs.

  • Collaborates with the Coordinator of Liturgy to assure that liturgical worship is integrated with catechetical programs.

  • Religious Education Responsibilities

    • Invites, motivates, and trains volunteers to assist as responsible leaders for various aspects of the total program.

    • Develops a learning community among the catechists so that they assimilate the basic principles of children’s education and adult education, and are able to apply this knowledge for the particular grade/age level.

    • Facilitates personal faith growth among catechists as a Christian community.

    • Presents to catechists and others, the teaching of the Catholic Church according to the catechetical principles enunciated in Church documents:  Universal, national and Archdiocesan.

    • Provides opportunities for parents to exercise their role as primary catechists by taking an active part in the religious education of their children.

    • Oversees and Organizes catechists and curriculum for grades K4-8

    • Organizes catechists, curriculum, and guidelines for Confirmation Preparation in grades 9-11

    • Assist with the planning and implementation of Adult Formation classes within our Family Program

  • Pastoral Responsibilities

    • Calls forth personnel from among the members of the parish to assist as responsible leaders for various aspects of the program.

    • Is visibly present at principal parish events.

    • Promotes good public relations both within and beyond the parish, and is involved in ecumenical, cluster, Deanery, and Archdiocesan networks of professional peers.

  • Personal Qualities

    • Possesses the capacity to relate to a wide variety of people

    • Generous in spirit

    • Ability to delegate and collaborate with other ministers and volunteers

    • Responds to conflict or obstacles with realism, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in K4-K12 education; theology or religious education preferred

  • At least 3 years teaching experience in religious education

  • Advanced Certification in Religious Education

  • At least 2 years in an administrative capacity which involves the direction of programs and personnel, preferably in a parish setting
