Director of Finance

The following are typical duties carried out by this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Ensures timely, accurate and efficient operation of all aspects of the finance and accounting functions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports. Advises management of actions and potential risks.
  • Develops and implements internal controls. Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
  • Ensures proper recording, safeguarding and use of all unrestricted, restricted and in-kind donations.
  • Responsible for the fiscal controls and reporting of fund development events.
  • Prepares timely and accurate financial statements for the President and Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for the process of the accounts payable functions to control expenses and generate cost savings.
  • Manages cash flow, providing projections, identifying cash needs. Responsibility includes actions necessary to establish credit and collections, and purchasing policies to meet payment of bills and financial obligation.
  • Preparation of journal entries (General, Cash Receipts, Disbursements, etc.).
  • Conducts monthly bank reconciliations, account analysis, and prepares related journal entries.
  • Preparation of and coordination with auditors to complete year-end and interim audits including coordination with all impacted departments and related materials/schedules.
  • Develops financial reports and analysis as requested by the President, Principal and Board of Directors.
  • Works with all departments to develop and maintain the school wide budget. This includes managing the overall budget and ensuring procedures are in place to monitor efficiency/cost savings.
  • Identifies and implements finance department goals and objectives.
  • Maintains a strong banking relationship.
  • Oversees all human resources functions including administration of employee salary and benefit programs, payroll processing and staffing changes.
  • Oversees tuition management and collection process.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing and monitoring metrics for the Financial Aid budget.
  • Approves contractual agreements concerning financial obligations.
  • Knowledge and awareness of industry updates, keeping abreast of and implementing policies and changes as appropriate.
  • Serves as staff member on the Finance & Investment Committee; assists in developing financial policies for the school, maintaining/tracking of investments, and accomplishing business operations goals.
  • Oversees the management, maintenance and upkeep of the facilities.
  • Serves as staff member on the Building and Grounds Committee; assists in developing facilities policies and accomplishing facility-related goals.
  • Participates in Dominican activities and events as appropriate.

Qualifications

Catholic Identity of Dominican High School:

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.

  • Conducts all written and oral communication in a cordial and professional manner.
  • Manages multiple priorities and establishes an efficient, flexible schedule to achieve operational goals.

Education and Experience:

  • Four-year degree required, CPA, MBA, or Accounting preferred.
  • Four to seven years related experience preferably in managing the finances and facilities for a school, nonprofit, or church.
  • Experience with Microsoft’s Great Plains a plus.
