Director of Liturgical Ministries

Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities

 

Serve as Facilitator for the Various Liturgical Ministries

  1. Prepare and distribute Liturgical Guides for Presiders, Deacons, Preachers & Lectors each week. When necessary, this can also include musicians, movement and drama ministers, ushers, servers, etc.
  2. Coordinate the scheduling of various ministries including Presiders, Lectors, Servers, Sacristans, Ushers, etc.
  3. Prepare printed Orders of Worship for congregational use as well as electronic versions of the Orders of Worship used on the screens in church.
  4. Create/coordinate online prayer offerings in coordination with the pastor/parish director. These would include Wednesday Table Reflections and the Parishioner View of the Sunday Scriptures.
  5. Develops and coordinates the parish Liturgy Committee and is responsible for the distribution of minutes to committee members and Parish Council.
  6. Act as resource person in the area of liturgy, including information on current thinking in the field, Archdiocesan policy guidelines, articles, ideas and creative liturgy adaptation at the local level.
  7. Coordinate rehearsals for the various liturgical ministries when necessary. This is done in conjunction with the parish-wide calendar.
  8. On-going recruitment of people for the various ministries, including Liturgy Committee, Lectors, Servers, Ushers, Sacristans, Eucharistic Ministers, Environment, etc.
  9. Provide and coordinate the necessary training, formation, support and ongoing communication for these ministries.
  10. Collaborates with Pastor, Presiders and Music Director to ensure the use of sound liturgical practices.

Serve as Link to Pastoral Staff

  1. Participate in the on-going development of parish vision/philosophy, in coordination with the Parish Staff and Pastoral Council.o
  2. Keep current with the changing developments in liturgical life through reading, workshops, seminars, etc.
  3. Act as a resource person in the coordination of all parish liturgical celebrations, including attendance at Liturgy and other special planning meetings.
  4. Attendance at Staff meetings.
  5. Work with the Director of Music Ministries in the music and ritual planning for the liturgical celebrations.

Parish-Wide Ministry

  1. Develop ways of providing on-going education in the field of liturgy.
  2. Serve as resource person to all staff and liturgical ministers to promote understanding and the development of needed skills for the planning and implementation of all parish liturgies.

Administration

  1. Maintain necessary files, computer records and programs, including licenses and copyrights.
  2. Prepares and manages the liturgy budget.
  3. Prepares/supervises the preparation of liturgy aids such as orders of worship and presider's guides, lector notes, etc.
  4. Maintain open and working communication with Presiders, Preachers, the various ministries and Ministers.
  5. Coordinates the purchase and organization of liturgical supplies, furniture and equipment.
  6. Oversees/coordinates the scheduling of Lectors, Servers, Sacristans, Ushers, etc.
  7. Guided by the rules and regulations as contained in the local policies or as prescribed in other official ways, as well as the policies and regulations of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Office for Worship and the Office of Parish Finance.

Personal Education and Growth

  1. Keep current with church documents and official statements, as well as developments in pastoral liturgy.
  2. Subscriptions to major resource periodicals such as ML, Rite, etc.
  3. Periodic participation in conferences/workshops encouraged and supported by the parish by allowing time and provision of some monetary assistance.
  4. Periodic course work in the field of pastoral liturgy encouraged, also supported by the parish.

 

Qualifications

Religious Requirements

o Must be a practicing Catholic

Education

o Bachelor's degree in liturgy or liturgical music or equivalent experience.
o Professional training in liturgy including knowledge of the church, its mission and sacramental life.

Experience

o Minimum two-years liturgy and/or music experience in a parish setting.
o Proficiency in piano and/or organ helpful, not required.

Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities

o Working knowledge of computer operations and office equipment.
o Ability to work cooperatively, collaboratively and effectively with parishioners, staff, and others.
o Demonstrated ability in needs assessment, program coordination, and volunteer recruitment and training.
o Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.
