Director of Liturgical Music

  1. Responsible for providing music for the liturgical celebrations on weekends, holy days, school liturgies, Holy Week, reconciliation services, morning prayer, stations of the cross, sacramental celebrations (i.e. First Eucharist, Confirmation) and any other special occasions as determined by the pastor/supervisor.
  2. Recruits, trains, directs and supervises cantors, instrumental ensembles (including handbell choirs) and choirs for all liturgical celebrations.
  3. Prepares assembly for liturgies through rehearsals prior to liturgies, rehearsals with students in parish school or Christian Formation programs.
  4. Communicate through parish bulletin and newsletters as needed.
  5. Actively participates in parish organizations including pastoral/parish staff, Liturgy committee, liturgy preparation groups.
  6. Develops budget for liturgical music and manages funds allocated in a fiscally responsible manner, submitting check requests as needed.
  7. Responsible for music at weddings and funerals.
  8. Finds substitute musician when needed for weekend liturgies, funeral Masses, weddings, special events, etc.
  9. Maintains and develops personal and professional skills through regular rehearsal and practice.
  10. Participate in ongoing formation opportunities through Archdiocesan meetings and ALMA.
  11. Participates in liturgical music projects of the Archdiocese when feasible.
  12. To unlock/lock the church before and after liturgical celebrations. 
  13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing and able to partake fully in the sacramental life of the Church.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music.
  • Proficient in piano, organ and choral direction.
  • Knowledge of various musical styles (traditional, contemporary, folk, praise and worship) as they apply to Catholic worship
  • Motivated, team oriented and flexible with organizational skills, well-developed personal and relationship skills and strong communication abilities.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft and Publisher, and able to use online music programs.
