High School Youth Minister

The Youth Minister under the guidance and direction of the Pastor is responsible for the planning, organizing, guiding and coordinating all of the religious formation process for Parish youth that attend public schools in Grades 9-12. She/He is also the coordinator of the sacramental preparation program for Confirmation for all Parish Youth in Grade 11.  As a member of the Pastoral Team the YM collaborates with the Faith Formation Committee and the Catechists leaders in assessing the appropriate needs and goals for the Parish Religious Education Program for Grades 9-12.

Description of responsibilities, duties, and activities:

  1. To direct and administer a comprehensive cross parish youth ministry program integrated into the life of the parishes for youth ninth grade through seniors in High School.  The eight components of this youth ministry model are: catechesis, advocacy, community life, Evangelization, justice, peace and service; leadership development; pastoral care/guidance; prayer and worship.  The four ministry settings are youth programming, family ministry, involvement in Church Life, Collaboration with the civic community.
  1. To coordinate the High School (9th & 10th) focusing on the following areas:
  • Research, plan and implement high school curriculum.
  • Recruit (new and existing), screen, train, enrich support & recognize Catechist leaders.
  • Organize Prayer and Worship events.
  • Plan and participate in social and recreational activities.
  • Establish and participate in a strong community service program for youth. 

     

  1. To coordinate the Confirmation (11th Grade) Program focusing on the following areas:
  • Develop a solid Confirmation curriculum & organize Confirmation retreats.
  • Recruit and provide training for Confirmation team leaders.
  • Organize Prayer and Worship events including Confirmation Liturgy.
  • Plan and participate in social and recreational activities.
  • Establish and participate in a strong community service program for youth.
  • Expansion and further development of the current youth group.

     

  1. To develop/coordinate a  High School Seniors Program focusing on the following areas:
  • Build a relationship with High School Seniors.
  • Provide spiritual component of program.
  • Plan service and social opportunities for High School Seniors.

     

  1. Annual Budget and Monthly tracking
  •  Prepares annual line item expense & income worksheets for budget.
  •  Monitors monthly expenses and income/revenue for program in comparison to budgets.
  •  Authorizes expenditures within the approved annual budget.
  •  Understands/uses all internal computer programs for information such as PDS & FACTS.

 

  1. Prepares short and long term plans and develops program goals and strategies to respond to the above listed job description.  Maintains ongoing evaluation of such plans and goals.
  1. Oversees/Assures the supervision of all minors while on parish/school grounds and offsite for catechetical activities.
  •  Manage behavior and work with parents as needed.
  •  Manage volunteer lists and record keeping for safeguarding annual reporting insuring Arch Diocese compliance.
  1. Responsible for all administrative duties for the High School program such as:
  •  Communication with families via email, mail, & phone calls.
  •  Tracking & reconciliation of all expenses, attendance and registration for program.
  •  Effective communication with minimal support staff with clear expectations of desired outcome.
  •  Monthly reporting in writing to Pastor on program enrollment, planning & developments.

 

Qualifications

The person in this High School Youth Faith Formation position will be/have:

 

  • Love of young people and desire to help them grow spiritually.  A practicing and active Catholic willing to grow in faith and spirituality.  Patient and kind role model to youth with good interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theological Studies and a certificate in Youth Ministry or Masters Degree in Theological Studies.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a catechist and/or teaching experience preferred. Previous experience working with youth.
  • Highly motivated with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Technological proficiency necessary to perform functions of the role and engage youth.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work independent and as part of a team, working collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds while adhering to ethical standards.
  • Knowledge and adherence to all "Safe Guarding Our Children" rules and guidelines.
