The instructional aide assists teachers and school staff with instructional, supervisory, and clerical activities to provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. This position works mainly with students and teachers in grades 1 through 8 and includes a focus on providing ELA and math support to address learning loss gaps due to the Covid 19 pandemic in identified students.
This position will support SMSA as a building substitute teacher when called upon and as necessary. The substitute teacher may replace a regular teacher of support extended care on a day-to-day basis depending on short-term or even last-minute needs of SMSA. Willingness to obtain a substitute license, practicing Catholic and Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Qualifications
Essential Functions:
• Collaborates with classroom teachers, reading interventionists, and coaches to provide classroom differentiation and/or appropriate supplemental instruction for identified students as well as monitor student learning progress to address learning loss gaps, as appropriate.
• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and to reinforce classroom objectives.
• Facilitates use of data to improve student outcomes.
• Assists in preparation of materials for class, classroom activities, displays and assignments involving such activities as word processing, filing, distributing, collecting, photocopying, and use of standard office equipment.
• Supervises students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This may include duties such as lunchroom, bus, playground, and escorting students as needed.
• Demonstrates, monitors and encourages positive student behaviors and enforce school rules.
• Participates in regular and ongoing professional development efforts and works collaboratively to constantly improve professional practice.
• Participates fully and positively in staff culture and the relentless pursuit of our mission and the Ledger Way.
