Math Intervention and Support Specialist

  • Assess students and groups of students in mid- through high-level math courses using various test results to help determine appropriate mathematics course placements
  • Use data, including STAR 360 math skills assessments, progress reports and identified areas of deficiencies, to provide instruction, guidance and support to students to bring their skills up to or beyond grade-level
  • Monitor the progress of his or her entire math caseload of approximately 125 to 150 students (which will focus on elevating students’ trajectory to higher level capstone courses), maintains records and communicates regularly with parents and teachers
  • Interpret progress monitoring data to determine effectiveness of teaching techniques, methods and procedures to help math teachers modify instruction and improve student outcomes
  • Track and report on the individual student check-in meetings that measure progress toward academic and social/emotional competencies
  • Attend and participate in ongoing math pedagogy training sessions, data analysis meetings and workshops
  • Help identify teaching best practices (both internal and external) for individual students and groups of students and assists instructional leadership to ensure such practices are implemented throughout the math curriculum
  • Provide input regarding the development and implementation of an intervention
  • Work with the Math teachers and the Principal to teach the intervention tactics
  • Prepare frequent reports for parents, math teachers, Principal and Director of Student Achievement
  • Attend the appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills
  • Participate in evaluations of the intervention plan
  • Manage and orders materials that are necessary for performing job functions

 

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work collaboratively with groups of parents, teachers and students
  • Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate recommendations to teachers based upon collected data
  • Working knowledge of learning management and student data systems with a preference for STAR 360 progress monitoring software
  • Demonstrated success in driving organizational/cultural change
  • Demonstrate an understanding of advanced high school math courses and possesses a strong understanding of the English language, spelling and proper grammar
  • Demonstrate patience for working with students
  • Show the ability to create and maintain a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to learning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited four-year college/university required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Appropriate teaching license with endorsements in Math required
  • At least three years of experience teaching in a high school math classroom setting
