Middle School Science

Under the direction of the principal, the purpose of this position is to respect Catholic values and aid students in Christian formation by exemplifying Catholic living, both in and out of the classroom. Because Catholic schools educate their students to promote the kingdom of God, it is important that all teachers are role models for students.  The teacher is accountable to the principal to provide education to the grades and/or subjects assigned, to implement the St. Dominic Catholic School mission, to follow the policies of the St. Dominic Catholic Parish and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, and adhere to the directives set by the Principal.

Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities

  1. Upholds and models the teachings of the Catholic Church
  2. Implements instruction that is consistent with the philosophy of St. Dominic Catholic School
  3. Demonstrates a professional demeanor and attitude in alignment with Gospel values and the school’s mission
  4. Effectively plans the presentation of subject matter to meet the needs, interests and abilities of all the students as it pertains to the curriculum of the Office of Schools as part of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee
  5. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and supports the learning needs of every student by establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities, observing, evaluating and providing feedback on student’s performance as well as establishing and enforcing rules and procedures, maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  6. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  7. Supervises students in proper use of school materials and equipment
  8. Assists with the supervision of students and assumes responsibility for supervision of students when assigned by the principal to include escorting children to and from specials classes and recess
  9. Participates in a cycle of review using the Teacher Effectiveness Framework
  10. Attends all faculty, in-service, and school meetings where applicable
  11. Maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents in a prompt and courteous manner
  12. Collaborates with the rest of faculty in planning, developing, evaluating, and maintaining school policies and practices
  13. Integrates technology into all facets of the curriculum and daily practice
  14. Attends Archdiocesan Convention In-Service programs  and professional learning opportunities as directed
  15. Takes responsibility for professional growth
  16. Contributes to the student’s sense of self-worth as a Christian person; foster an apostolic consciousness in students and influence the spiritual development of students, adheres to Code of Ethical Conduct and Safeguarding All God’s Children
  17. Demonstrates a commitment towards spiritual growth in the context of the Catholic school
  18. Educates the child in all academic areas, building on their potential capabilities and skills (intellectual, physical, emotional, and social)
  19. Serves beyond the classroom in school committees/activities/events as it relates to a positive school environment
  20.  Maintains grades and prepares grade reports in compliance with the philosophy of standards based assessment and grading practices, records daily attendance of students and completes all required forms and reports
  21. Effectively follows all directives of the School Principal
  22. Performs other duties as requested

Expectations specific to Science

  1. Encourage, prepare, and lead students in physical science, life science/ health, and STEM
  2. Maintain and expand upon the technology integration utilized as part of the St. Dominic Catholic School seventh and eighth grade science program
  3. Collaborate with the principal and pastor on preparation and planning for the eighth grade graduation
  4. Advising the St. Dominic Catholic School SMART team in collaboration with SMART, MSOE, and the Medical College of Wisconsin
  5. Collaborate with the math teacher and media facilitator for the advancement of STEM topics in the middle school


  1. Bachelor’s degree in broad field general science but chemistry or biology 
  2. Be appropriately certified in grades 1-9 or 6-12 or certifiable for this grade level of instruction by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
  3. Meet the requirements for Religious Certification as established by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee
  4. Teachers teaching religion must be a practicing Catholic
  5. Knowledge of the parish mission, ministries, and structure
  6. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing with staff, students, parents, parish leaders and volunteers while using a collaborative work style
