Music Teacher

  1. Supervises students at St. John XXIII Catholic School while teaching individuals or groups instrumental music.
  2. Instructs students in music theory, harmony, score and sight reading, composition, and music appreciation.
  3. Provides individual or group instrumental lessons using technical knowledge, aesthetic appreciation, and prescribed teaching strategies.
  4. Prepares lesson plans and establishes curricular goals.
  5. Sings or plays instrument to demonstrate musical scales, tones, and rhythm.
  6. Practices and prepares students for the annual Christmas Program, Spring Concert, and other concerts as assigned.
  7. Selects and assembles the proper supplies and props for the Christmas and Spring Programs.
  8. Critiques concert performances to identify errors and reinforce correct techniques.
  9. Observes and evaluates pupils’ work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
  10. Confers with students, parents, and administrator to resolve problems or conflicts.
  11. Communicates with parents/guardians via email, notes, and phone calls as needed.
  12. Collaborates with the faculty on special unit projects to ensure that music is integrated across the curriculum.
  13. Develops, implements, evaluates, and periodically reports to the principal about the overall effectiveness of the music program.
  14. Continues professional development through course studies, conferences, and workshops.
  15. Assesses students on a regular basis.
  16. Keeps an accurate record of student performance through quarterly reports on School Speak.
  17. Models the Catholic faith for the students.

Qualifications

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a certified College or University in Elementary/Middle Education or be working towards.
  2. Must be certified teacher of music or working towards certification.
  3. Must attend proper level sessions in “Sustaining the Mission” series scheduled each year.
  4. Have appropriate certification from the State of Wisconsin or eligibility for such certification.
  5. Have additional course work supportive of working with students with special educational needs.
  6. Satisfactorily complete required background criminal records check.
  7. Fulfill requirements for religious instruction/certification as established by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
  8. Maintain constant updating of academic and religious requirements as required by the Wisconsin DPI, the Archdiocese, and St. John XXIII Catholic School. Such updates are to be discussed with and approved by the Principal.
  9. Complete Safe Environment Training prior to start date.
  10. All teachers are encouraged to pursue a Master’s Degree.
