Operations Manager- Catholic Cemeteries

Management & Coaching

·        Ensure the highest standards for The CFCS Way and the “Family First experience” through coaching, training, and professional development of operations personnel

·        Participate in Daily Morning Meetings; listen and provide input as appropriate

·        Collaborate with Location Manager (LM) on weekly work schedules and allocate required resources

·        Review Location Site Survey results with LM and Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager; implement corrective and preventative action plan as required

·        Represent CFCS at SEIU Joint Committee meetings, at the request of management


·        Discuss conditions, work flows, and/or areas of concern with LMs and seek their input

·        Develop mowing, trimming, and watering rotation schedules for all locations

·        Monitor sub-contractor’s quality of work and contract fulfillment; provide direction as necessary

·        Implement equipment maintenance, yard management, and work schedule best practices to improve work efficiency and productivity (e.g., service/work orders)

Team Development

·        Foster a collaborative, Family First Focus, and service-oriented work environment

·        Assist Location Managers, Regional Training Director, and EHS Manager in the selection, development, and delivery of training for operations               personnel

·        Assist Regional Operations Director in recruiting and hiring qualified candidates

·        Complete performance reviews for Family Environment Specialists and other staff as directed

·        Lead a regular schedule of administration and grounds operations Team/Safety Meetings

Family Service

·        Observe committal services (i.e., ground, crypt, niche) and give Family Environment Specialists feedback on process and service protocols; coach staff as needed

·        Assist families on cemetery grounds or direct them to the appropriate person for help

·        Be the point of resolution for conflicts with families related to field operations

·        Observe and reinforce The CFCS Way and “Family Care” to operations personnel


·        Review OSHA logs and postings, and incorporate issues and/or lessons learned into Team/Safety Meetings per Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)

·        Assist with the planning and communications between LMs, staff, and sub-contractors

·        Maintain equipment history and requirements to contribute to annual capital budget process

·        Ensure compliance with federal and state laws/regulations; follow CFCS policies and Church directives



·     College degree preferred, and/or 5+ years managing grounds or landscape operations with a mid-size or larger organization

·     Experience in the cemetery and funeral industry a plus

·     2-3 years of experience operating heavy equipment and using power and hand tools

      Practicing Catholic preferred

·     Knowledge of the Catholic faith, rituals, and traditions

·     Understanding the Order of Christian Funerals

·     Able to conduct oneself with a “Family First” approach

·     Able to supervise the work of others

·     Possess a good-natured, cooperative attitude

·     Highly organized and detail oriented

·     Possess strong time management skills

·     Safety-oriented and use of PPE, equipment safe guards, and safe practices

·     Able to perform equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs

·     Familiar with federal and state laws/regulations applicable to the burial of human and cremated remains

·     Proficient in the use of computers, software, and technology

·     Bilingual preferred


salaried exempt position, benefit eligible first of the month following 30 days of month.

This position will require travel to the 7 cemetery locations, will necessitate outdoor work in all types of weather and use of a variety of equipment. A drug test and physical competency exam is require prior to starting.
