Spanish Teacher

  1. Supervises students at St. John XXIII Catholic School while teaching and in other areas as needed/requested.
  2. Prepares students in all aspects of a foreign language—the written word and oral communication.
  3. Instructs students in the history and culture of the language being taught.
  4. Prepares lesson plans and establishes curricular goals.
  5. Observes and evaluates students’ work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
  6. Confers with students, parents, and administrator to resolve problems or conflicts.
  7. Communicates with parents/guardians via email, notes, and phone calls as needed.
  8. Collaborates with the faculty on special unit projects to ensure that foreign language is cross-curricular.
  9. Develops, implements, evaluates, and periodically reports to the principal about the overall effectiveness of the foreign language program.
  10. Continues professional development through course studies, conferences, and workshops.
  11. Assesses students on a regular basis.
  12. Keeps an accurate record of student performance through quarterly reports on School Speak.
  13. Models the Catholic faith for the students. Abide by the guidelines of the Faculty Handbook, Archdiocesan policies, and locally determined policies (School Board and Parish Council).
  14. Attend functions for the betterment of the school community.
  15. Perform recess and other duties as assigned by Principal.
  16. Assure the inclusion and integration of explicit balanced literacy instruction.
  17. Be knowledgeable of the Phoenix Times, athletic and general school activities and calendar information.
  18. Be especially aware of your role as an Ambassador of St. John XXIII Catholic School.


  1. Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a certified College or University in Elementary Education or be working towards.
  2. Have appropriate certification from the State of Wisconsin or eligibility for such certification.
  3. Have additional course work supportive of working with students with special educational needs.
  4. Satisfactorily complete required background criminal records check.
  5. Fulfill requirements for religious instruction/certification as established by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
  6. Maintain constant updating of academic and religious requirements as required by the Wisconsin DPI, the Archdiocese, and St. John XXIII Catholic School.  Such updates are to be discussed with and approved by the Principal.
  7. Must attend proper level sessions in “Sustaining the Mission” series scheduled each year.
  8. Complete Safe Environment Training prior to start date.
  9. All teachers are encouraged to pursue a Master’s Degree.
