Special Ed. Teacher


Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP, SNSP, 504 Plan, or other specialized educational documents. 

• Inform all teachers and interventionists of their students’ IEP, SNSP, 504 Plan, provide the documentation, summary, and highlights in the first weeks of school or as soon as the documentation is made available to the school. 

• Document and assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques. 

• Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP, SNSP, 504, or other goals. 

• Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals. 

• Proactively schedule team meetings and work cooperatively with classroom teachers, school counselors and others in developing instructional goals and strategies. 

• Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP. 

• Create a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including i-pads, Chromebooks, and other devices necessary especially as the school operates between three models of learning during or after pandemic times (remote, hybrid, and fully in-person). 

• Develop and implement the Special Needs Scholarship Program (SNSP) and maintain all record keeping and reporting requirements associated with the SNSP.

• Serve as primary contact for the parent.  Must be able to communicate in Spanish and English.

• work with MPS SPED teams to organize/conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations.  Coordinate re-evaluations and initial referrals.  Collects intervention data to support IEP referral.

• Comply with policies of school handbook and with Milwaukee Archdiocese and all state/federal rules and regulations. 

• Complete all district and state reporting requirements.  Coordinate services with DPI and MPS. 



Knowledge Skills and Ability Required: 

• Minimum B.A./B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution in the appropriate special education area. 

• Current Wisconsin teaching license in required content area. 

• Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and specialty area as well as the Response to Intervention model and specifically in the tier 3 category. 

• Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities. 

• Thorough knowledge of school rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior. 

• Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports. 

• Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively. 

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public. 

• Ability to facilitate professional development related to special education and IEPs.

• Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program. 

• Knowledge of and willingness to use relevant technology, Google suites, blended learning platforms, and ability to use technology such as i-pads to individualize instruction. 

• Meet professional teacher education requirements of school district and state. 

• Knowledge and skills in working with children with ADHD and/or EBD. 

• Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis. 

• Must have knowledge and experience with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
