Youth Minister

Specific Responsibilities:

 Faith Formation:

  Sacramental Preparation:

  • Collaborates with the Elementary Faith Formation Director as well as Father to ensure the education of the students meets or exceeds the requirements/expectations of the Archdiocese.
  • Plans and organizes the confirmation retreat.

      Faith Formation

  • Continually develop and provide a program that engages youth while providing a sound education based upon the teachings of the Second Vatican Council.
  • Directs the Faith Formation program for the grades 7-12.
  • Is responsible for the recruitment and training of the volunteer catechists.

 

Middle School/High School:

  • Organize regular activities, presentations, and speakers in collaboration with neighboring parishes.
  • Act as an advocate and link for the youth and young adults to the pastoral team, the parish, and the community at large.
  • Maintain consistent and regular contact with parents of the youth involved in the programs.
  • Developing, establishing and directing activities for the youth of the parish 7th thru 12th grades.
  • Continually invite and encourage the participation of all youth to participate in the available activities and programs.
  • Organize activities and events that reach out to teens that may not be practicing their faith or are limited in their participation.
  • Coordinate chaperones and adult supervisors and transportation when necessary to meet the requirements of the Archdiocesan Safeguarding our Children program.
  • Coordinate service opportunities for the Youth of the parish
  • Coordinate, plan and attend a summer yearly mission trip with the youth of the parish
  • Participate, coordinate and plan for the youth to attend Milwaukee Archdiocese events such as the Wisconsin Youth Rally, St. John Bosco Youth Day and NCYC

General:

  • Balance the eight components of youth ministry as established by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops in their document Renewing the Vision of Youth Ministry:  advocacy, catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice/service, leadership development pastoral care, prayer and worship.
  • Continually publicize youth initiatives through various media forms, particularly those media forms that reach the greatest number of youth and young adults.  Provide announcements and other materials for publication in the Bulletin on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate with other parish committees and organizations to integrate the youth fully in parish life.
  • Assists in drafting a Faith Formation budget and work within budget.
  • Participate in all scheduled parish staff meetings, District meetings, and Strategic planning meetings, which involve Faith Formation.

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic with a degree in religious education, theology, scripture or liturgical studies with coursework in the same areas, or equivalent experience.
  • Must have a Basic Religious Education Certificate.
