Position Summary:
The Assistant Teacher will support the delivery of educational and enrichment activities in a safe, engaging, and positive environment for preschool, elementary or middle school students during the after-school program.
Key Responsibilities:
● Assist lead teachers and program staff in the planning and supervision of classroom and recreational activities.
● Support students with homework and academic enrichment activities.
● Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.
● Engage with students in indoor and outdoor recreational activities, helping facilitate social-emotional learning and physical development through play and creativity.
● Maintain good relations and communication with parents.
● Monitor student behavior and enforce program rules and expectations consistently.
● Document any problems with discipline and inform the child care teacher and/or director
● Prepare and clean up materials, snacks, and classroom spaces as needed.
● Help with daily attendance and sign-in/sign-out procedures.
● Communicate effectively with program staff, parents, and school personnel.
● Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
● Any and all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
● Be at least 18 years of age.
● High school diploma or equivalent (some college or coursework in education, child development, or related field preferred).
● Experience working with children in educational, recreational, or childcare settings.
● Strong communication and teamwork skills.
● Ability to be flexible, patient, and responsive to the needs of students.
● First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
● Completion of Mandatory Reporter, Child Maltreatment, and Abusive Head Trauma Trainings
● Background check and fingerprinting clearances required. ● Satisfactory completion of 2 credits in early childhood education or its equivalent within 6 months after assuming the position. Introduction to the ChildCare Profession (Revised 2024) and Skills And Strategies for the Child Care Teacher (Revised 2024) meets this requirement for entry level Teacher Assistant.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Familiarity with behavior management techniques.
● Passion for youth development and educational equity.
