Associate Director - Diaconate Formation

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Diaconate Formation will support the Director in overseeing the comprehensive formation program for candidates preparing for the permanent diaconate. This role involves coordinating educational, spiritual, pastoral, and human formation activities to ensure candidates are well-prepared for ministry within the Church. The Associate Director will work closely with clergy, formation teams, and candidates to foster a supportive and enriching environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing the diaconate formation curriculum and schedule.
  • Coordinate and facilitate formation sessions, retreats, and workshops.
  • Provide guidance and support to candidates throughout their formation journey.
  • Collaborate with clergy, formation team members, and parish communities to promote the diaconate program.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of candidates in all areas of formation: spiritual, academic, pastoral, and human.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to candidate formation and program activities.
  • Assist in recruitment and discernment processes for potential candidates.
  • Represent the diaconate formation office at meetings, events, and conferences as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in theology, Pastoral Ministry, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in ministry formation, religious education, or pastoral leadership.
  • Strong understanding of the permanent diaconate and Catholic Church teachings.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Proficiency with office software and database management.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Church.

Work Environment

This position is based in St. Francis, WI, and may require occasional travel within the diocese for meetings, retreats, and events. The Associate Director will work in an office setting with regular interaction with candidates, clergy, and parish staff.

The position is a full-time (40 hours per week), salaried position working in-person at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Pastoral Center. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee provides a full scope of employment benefits, including medical, dental, vision, flextime, Catholic school tuition assistance for children of employees, 403b, and a pension program. Mileage reimbursement is available.
