Director of Evangelization and Formation

Position Summary

The Director of Evangelization and Formation is responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading the parish's efforts to proclaim the Gospel and foster lifelong faith formation. Working closely with the Pastor, parish staff, clergy, and volunteers, the Director creates opportunities for parishioners of all ages to encounter Jesus Christ, grow as disciples, and actively participate in the mission of the Church.

St. Barnabas Catholic Church is blessed with a vibrant and growing Hispanic ministry that is integral to the life of the parish. The Director will work collaboratively to ensure evangelization, catechesis, and discipleship opportunities are accessible, culturally responsive, and inclusive of both English- and Spanish-speaking parishioners.

The Director provides strategic leadership for evangelization initiatives, adult faith formation, OCIA, sacramental preparation, discipleship, and ministry development while cultivating a welcoming parish culture rooted in prayer, stewardship, and missionary outreach.

Essential Responsibilities

Evangelization

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive parish evangelization strategy aligned with the parish mission and diocesan priorities.
  • Foster a culture of missionary discipleship throughout the parish community.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to inactive Catholics, new parishioners, seekers, and those interested in the Catholic faith.
  • Promote hospitality and pathways for parishioners to become engaged in parish life.
  • Collaborate with Hispanic ministry leaders to ensure evangelization efforts effectively serve and engage the parish's Spanish-speaking community.

Faith Formation

  • Oversee adult faith formation opportunities, including Bible studies, small groups, retreats, parish missions, and educational programs.
  • Direct the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), including recruitment, formation of team members, and coordination of the process.
  • Coordinate sacramental preparation programs for adults and collaborate with those responsible for children's and youth formation.
  • Support bilingual and culturally inclusive faith formation opportunities that reflect the diversity of the parish.
  • Ensure all catechetical programming reflects the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Leadership Development

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and support parish volunteers and ministry leaders.
  • Provide ongoing formation for catechists, facilitators, and evangelization teams.
  • Encourage leadership development and succession planning within parish ministries, including Hispanic ministry leadership.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Pastor, parish staff, Hispanic ministry leaders, and other ministry leaders to integrate evangelization into all aspects of parish life.
  • Participate in parish planning, staff meetings, and strategic initiatives.
  • Build partnerships with diocesan offices and neighboring parishes when appropriate.

Administration

  • Develop and manage ministry budgets.
  • Maintain accurate records for formation programs and sacramental preparation.
  • Utilize parish communication platforms, including the website, bulletin, email, and social media, to promote evangelization and formation opportunities in both English and Spanish whenever possible.
  • Evaluate ministry effectiveness and recommend improvements.

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who faithfully lives and supports Catholic teaching.
  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, Catechetics, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in parish ministry, evangelization, catechesis, or faith formation.
  • Strong understanding of Catholic theology, Scripture, and Church teaching.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to recruit, motivate, and supervise volunteers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and parish management software.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as ministry needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in catechetical or pastoral ministry.
  • Experience leading OCIA and adult faith formation.
  • Experience serving in a culturally diverse parish.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) strongly preferred to effectively support the parish's vibrant Hispanic ministry.
