Director of Finance
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Finance manages the financial and accounting activities, and internal controls, for St. Vincent de Paul Society of Milwaukee. Responsible for daily financial and accounting operations, the role includes the audit, compliance, reporting, and analysis. The Director of Finance will collaborate closely with the Executive Director.
ACCOUNTING
- Manage the daily accounting operations and execute basic accounting procedures for the general ledger, sub ledgers, and reporting systems, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, investments, fixed assets, purchasing, journal entries, grant distributions, and vendor payments.
- Manage the general ledger closings on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, and ensure accurate financial presentations and account reconciliations.
- Manage banking activities and reconciliations.
FINANCE AND INVESTMENTS
- Produce accurate financial statements and reports for use in both internal and external compliance and reporting, including for management, committee, and board meetings.
- Work with Finance Committee and Investment Manager to manage cash flows and ensure compliance with Society’s Investment Policy.
- Collaborate with managers to develop annual budgets. Track and report on the annual operating and programmatic budgets.
- Ensure appropriate gift entry, management, and reporting in partnership with the Director of Development.
- Assist in the execution and implementation of technology to streamline processes.
INTERNAL CONTROLS AND COMPLIANCE
- Monitor internal controls and compliance with accounting and finance policies and procedures.
HUMAN RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as the primary backup for Human Resources Director.
- Responsible for processing payroll.
SVDP PROPERTIES
- Staff liaison to properties committee.
- Works with management team to ensure all properties are maintained.
- Maintains preferred vendor listing for managers to utilize contractors.
- Works with properties committee to manger tenant concerns and leases.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
- Five 5 years of non-profit accounting experience.
- A minimum of two years in a finance leadership role.
- Ability to process and protect confidential information in a professional manner.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills to effectively engage with all stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SharePoint.
- Experience with QuickBooks a plus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to get Safeguard certified and pass a criminal background check.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is remote but does require in-person meeting attendance on a regular basis for committee meetings and Board meetings in the Milwaukee area.
