The Kenosha-Racine County Line Catholic Parishes are seeking a faith-filled, creative, and collaborative Director of Liturgy and Music to lead and enrich the liturgical life of our parish communities. This position offers an opportunity to inspire meaningful worship through thoughtful liturgical planning, vibrant music ministry, and the formation of parishioners who share their gifts in service to the Church. The ideal candidate will bring a deep love for the Catholic faith, strong musical and liturgical knowledge, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a desire to help our communities encounter Christ more deeply through the beauty of the liturgy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
LITURGY PLANNING & COORDINATION:
- Oversee the planning, preparation, and execution of all liturgical celebrations, including weekend Masses, holy days, special liturgical seasons such as Advent, Lent, and Easter, and other sacramental events.
- Collaborate with the Pastor and other parish leaders to ensure liturgies are consistent with Catholic liturgical norms and practices.
- Work with various ministries (e.g., altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers) to ensure smooth liturgical celebrations.
MUSIC MINISTRY:
- Lead the parish music program, including the selection of hymns, psalms, and other liturgical music for all Masses and liturgies.
- Direct the adult and children’s choirs, as well as other musical groups, including instrumentalists.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer musicians and cantors.
- Ensure that music is aligned with the theology and purpose of Catholic worship, including traditional and contemporary styles as appropriate.
- Coordinate with outside musicians for special liturgical events, including weddings, funerals, and major liturgical celebrations.
PASTORAL CARE & ENGAGEMENT:
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment within the parish for all individuals and families involved in the liturgical and music ministries.
- Provide spiritual formation and music education opportunities for parishioners.
- Encourage and promote participation in liturgies and music ministry from all age groups within the parish community.
ADMINISTRATION & COORDINATION:
- Maintain and organize all liturgical music resources, including hymnals, music books, digital resources, and sacristy supplies.
- Manage the music budget, including purchasing music, paying musicians, and maintaining musical instruments.
- Schedule and coordinate all music ministry volunteers, ensuring proper coverage for all Masses and events.
- Regularly evaluate and improve the liturgical and music ministry, seeking feedback from the parish community.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
- Ensuring all church records, parishioner information, and correspondence are handled confidentially and securely.
CODE OF ETHICS:
- Follows the Code of Ethical Standards for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree in music, liturgy, theology, or a related field, or equivalent experience in liturgical and music ministry.
- Previous experience in leading music ministry and liturgical planning in a Catholic parish setting.
- Experience in conducting choirs, working with musicians, and providing music for a variety of liturgical celebrations.
- Strong understanding of Catholic liturgy and the role of music within the liturgical celebration.
- Proficiency in piano/organ and voice; ability to lead worship services musically.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- A deep faith commitment to the Catholic Church and an understanding of the role of liturgy and music in fostering spiritual growth is preferred.
- Passionate about fostering a vibrant and inclusive music ministry within the parish.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the parish community.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required for liturgical events.
- Must be willing to participate in continuing education, liturgical workshops, and training as needed.
