Job Description:
The Educational Assistant will support the lead teacher in maintaining a safe classroom culture and reinforcing academic and social expectations. They will work together to drive student achievement by providing high-quality, differentiated implementation of the school’s curriculum. This partnership will allow more collaboration, individualized instruction, and support for school-wide events.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist the classroom teacher during whole group instruction by moving throughout the classroom to check for understanding and ensure students are maintaining on-task behavior.
- Conduct daily instruction with students one-on-one or small groups; emphasis on literacy and math.
- Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with Individualized Education Plan (IEPs) and/or accommodations.
- Help prepare materials; track attendance, set-up equipment, make copies, create classroom/school displays, process student paperwork, document student social/behavioral progress and record grades.
- Participate in classroom planning through preparation for, and at times, creation of lessons and assessments.
- Collaborate with the lead teacher to plan for and implement assessments.
- Provide the lead teacher with input when the teacher is preparing to meet with parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding student academic progress and behavior.
- Implement behavior plans as directed by the teacher or support staff.
- Model positive behavior and social interactions.
- Assist students with conflict resolution and emotional regulation.
- Supervise students; this may include, but is not limited to, during specials (Art, Music, Physical Education), start-of-day/end-of- day activities, study hall, meals, recess, bathroom breaks, in the library, during Mass or other religious activities, computer lab, or on field trips, as assigned.
- Assume classroom leadership responsibilities when the lead teacher is absent.
- Be a model of exemplary character, self-esteem and self-discipline.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or classroom teacher.
- Required to participate in all professional development (including professional development related to the educational assistant role) and spiritual formation sessions, including but not limited to August Orientation, a fall retreat, Sustaining the Mission, two full days of PD during the school year, and two days in June after classes end.
- Required to participate in various school events, including but not limited to Back to School Night, Open Houses, Retreat, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Scholarship Dinner, Professional Development Days, and Graduation.

- Hold students accountable to Nativity’s classroom expectations. For example, clip chart expectations, Magis slips, positive narration, 100%, SLANT, etc.
- Partner with the teacher to gain a full understanding of classroom data to provide direction to support academic growth of students.
- Read the weekly lesson plans to understand the daily objectives and support in preparing materials (for whole group and small group).
Position Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalency is required.
Preferred:
- Catholic
- Spanish speaking
- Interest in teaching or prior teaching background
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs, highly preferred.
