Job Summary
The Catholic School Principal is the spiritual, instructional, and administrative leader responsible for fostering a strong Catholic identity, academic excellence, and a culture of faith, respect, and service. The principal works in close collaboration with the pastor and parish staff to ensure that the mission of the school aligns with the broader pastoral vision of the parish community.
A. Educational/Experiential Requirements
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with a deep commitment to Catholic education and values is preferred.
- Master’s degree in educational leadership, Administration, or related field (or actively working toward it).
- Valid state certification for school administration (as required by the diocese).
Minimum of 3–5 years teaching and/or administrative experience in Catholic education. - Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
B. Skills and Qualifications
- Practicing Roman Catholicism with a strong understanding of Catholic liturgy, music, and theology.
- Experience working collaboratively with a parish or in a parish school setting.
- Knowledge of current trends in Catholic education and school improvement.
C. Duties and Responsibilities
- Spiritual Leadership:
- Promote and uphold the Catholic identity and mission of the school in all aspects of school life.
- Collaborate with the pastor to integrate the teachings and values of the Catholic faith across the curriculum and daily operations.
- Provide opportunities for faith formation, prayer, liturgy, and service for students, faculty, and families.
- Serve as a spiritual role model for faculty, staff, and students.
- Collaborative Leadership:
- Work closely with the pastor and parish staff to strengthen the bond between school and parish.
- Participate in parish meetings, initiatives, and liturgical planning as appropriate.
- Support parish events and foster shared use of facilities and resources.
- Instructional Leadership:
- Supervise curriculum development and ensure academic excellence in accordance with diocesan and state standards.
- Support teachers through coaching, professional development, and evaluation.
- Promote a student-centered environment that fosters growth, inclusion, and differentiated instruction.
- Administrative Leadership:
- Oversee daily school operations including budgeting, enrollment, discipline, safety, and facilities management.
- As the Choice Administrator, ensure that all requirements and guidelines are followed.
- Ensure compliance with diocesan, state, and accrediting agency policies.
- Communicate effectively with parents, faculty, the School Advisory Board, and the wider parish community.
C. Work Conditions
- This is a full-time, year-round position that requires presence during school hours, some evenings, weekends, and special liturgical or parish events. Flexibility and visibility in both school and parish life are essential.

D. Physical and Visual Requirements
- The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with hands and arms.

- Able to utilize a computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds.
