Position Title: Faith Formation Coordinator

Position Status: 20 hours/ week

Reports To:  Pastor

Primary Function of Position

The Coordinator of Faith Formation is responsible for coordinating faith formation activities at St. Roman Parish and lead the 4K-5th grade cluster religious education program. The duties and requirements of this position are ministerial in nature and include participating in Mass, prayer and leading others in prayer as appropriate. These duties are central to our mission as a Catholic Parish.

Position Responsibilities

Member of Pastoral Staff
- Shares responsibility with the Pastoral Staff and Council in developing appropriate parish vision
- Regularly attends and actively participates in Pastoral Staff meetings
- Attends Pastoral Council meetings as needed
- Staff resource to the Evangelization Committee
- Supports other staff members by becoming acquainted with the responsibilities and strengths of each, by sharing prayer and by demonstrating a basic openness and receptivity to them as a
person.
- Take turns with other staff members in covering the front desk.
- Meets regularly with St. Charles Borromeo Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
 

Religious Education Program
- Recruit, train and retain catechists for the program. Provide opportunities for the catechists’ faith formation
- Create the necessary registration documentation and work with Director of Administrative Services (DAS) in the collection of fees
- Create the yearly schedule for the program
- Plan the curriculum for the program using Archdiocesan guidelines
- Plan retreats and days of reflection
- Source and order textbooks and other materials
- Work with the DAS in preparing the budget and monitor expenditures to be within approved budget
- Staff resources for school principals and teachers regarding sacramental preparation
- Plan and implement an annual Vacation Bible School
- Handles the OCIA registrations in conjunction with the deacon who runs the program
- Serve as a staff resource to the Faith Formation commission/committee
- Perform all other duties as assigned

Sacramental Preparation
- Recruit and assist in training catechists for the sacramental programs
- Plan and facilitate Morning of Reflection for First Eucharist and First Reconciliation.
- Work with liturgist in planning Reconciliation Service and First Eucharist Mass
- Provide support for the children’s OCIA process.

Safeguarding Coordinator
- Responsible for monitoring the Safeguarding status of all staff and volunteers in the parish
- Complete all required Archdiocesan reporting
- Notify supervisors of needed recertification

Position Requirements/Knowledge

Personal Traits
The Coordinator of Faith Formation should be a pastoral person with strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish languages. Dependable, trustworthy and willing to go the extra mile in building God’s kingdom.

You are a person of deep faith and are expected to know and act consistently in accordance with the mission, policies and tenets of the Catholic Church and the Code of Ethical Standards for Church Leaders.  You are further expected to perform all duties and responsibilities with an overriding commitment to develop our Catholic Faith Community in accordance with the doctrines, laws and norms of the Catholic Church.
Continuing Education
You will work with the Pastor to source opportunities to strengthen your faith and skills through workshops, meetings and classes. The role of the Coordinator of Faith Formation involves working some evening and weekend hours.
Education, Training and/or Experience
This position requires formation in the area(s) of religious studies, education, theology or similar area of study.
