St. Joseph Catholic School, a faith-centered and future-focused Catholic school serving students in grades K3–8, seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic First Grade Teacher to join our vibrant learning community. The successful candidate will foster academic excellence while nurturing the spiritual, social, emotional, and physical development of each child in accordance with the mission and values of St. Joseph Catholic School.
The First Grade Teacher will create a positive, engaging classroom environment where students are inspired to grow as learners, disciples of Christ, and compassionate members of the community.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee curriculum and grade-level standards.
- Provide instruction in religion, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and other assigned subjects.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and promote student success.
- Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching practices to enhance learning.
- Foster critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication skills.
Faith Formation
- Integrate Catholic teachings, prayer, and faith-based values throughout the school day.
- Support students in developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, sacramental preparation activities, and service-learning opportunities.
- Serve as a positive Catholic role model for students and families.
Classroom Environment
- Create a safe, welcoming, and nurturing classroom that promotes respect, responsibility, and kindness.
- Establish clear expectations and effective classroom management practices.
- Encourage healthy social relationships and emotional growth.
Family and Community Engagement
- Maintain positive and professional communication with parents and guardians.
- Partner with families to support student growth and achievement.
- Participate in parent conferences, school events, and community-building activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff to advance the school's mission and goals.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and required school events.
- Maintain accurate student records and timely reporting of grades and progress.
- Support accreditation initiatives and continuous school improvement efforts.
- Uphold all policies and expectations of St. Joseph Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
- Valid Wisconsin teaching license or eligibility for licensure.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
- Strong instructional, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Practicing Catholic.
- Previous elementary teaching experience.
- Experience integrating faith formation into daily instruction.
- Familiarity with standards-based instruction and assessment practices.
