Job Description
Dominican High School has a full-time opportunity for a student-centered educator in our Counseling Office. The Counselor should be sensitive to students’ emotional welfare, communicate clearly with families and fellow staff members, and implement programs promoting student success and wellness.
The ideal candidate will bring creativity and collaborative spirit to their role as counselor and colleague.
Dominican High School is a Catholic, college preparatory, co-ed high school of 320 students. Responsibilities
• Serve as the lead counselor for students in grades 9 and 10. Serve as the Counseling Office leader for programs that address student social and emotional needs and wellness.
• Mental Health lead for the Department
• Collaborate in the implementation of the Counseling Department’s career education curriculum
• Provide individual and group counseling to students with a holistic focus on student success
• Communicate with families and staff regarding students’ academic, social, emotional, and/or behavioral concerns, referring to community resources as appropriate.
• Assist students with career interest assessments, college readiness goals, and the college application process.
• Serve as key contributor with staff in addressing school-wide student needs, including academic achievement and developing positive behavior plans.
• Prepare documentation regarding individual and school-wide student concerns; including, but not limited to: letters to parents, reports, and referrals.
• Lead school-wide assessments and standardized testing.
• Academic advising
• Crisis intervention
Qualifications
Masters in Educational Counseling (or other related fields) from an accredited institute of higher education. Candidate must be WI DPI certified or certifiable as a school counselor.
Requirements
The position requires ability to effectively communicate with students, parents and teaching colleagues, and to fulfill the core competencies required of a School Counselor.
