About Nativity’s Graduate Support Program

The Graduate Support Program at Nativity Jesuit Academy provides the overall management, placement, programming, and tracking of all high school-aged graduates of NJA.  This program currently includes two roles: the Director of Graduate Support and a Graduate Support Coordinator.

 

Graduate Support Coordinator Position Description:

The Graduate Support Program Coordinator will work closely with and report directly to the Director of Graduate Support. The Graduate Support Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating the successful transition of Nativity graduates from Nativity Jesuit Academy to a college-prep high school. With the support of the Director of Graduate Support, the Graduate Support Coordinator will ensure that Nativity graduates have the guidance and support necessary to achieve their academic and personal goals during their time in high school and beyond.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

8th grade cohort

  • Prepare current 8th grade students for high school success by co-facilitating a high school readiness curriculum during the 8th grade school year
  • Submit report cards and standardized test scores for eighth grade student applicants to high schools for admissions review
  • Assist 8th grade families with high school, financial aid, and Choice applications through individual meetings and group presentations
  • Track individual eighth grade high school application progress, Choice results, and final student decisions
  • Schedule high school admissions presentations to middle school students and families

 

 

Mentoring Program

  • In conjunction with the Director of Graduate Support, facilitate the one-to-one mentoring program for high school students including:
    • Assist in recruiting, training, and supporting mentors
    • Manage the logistics of monthly meetings 
    • Facilitate sessions connected to students’ academic and personal success

       

High School

  • Facilitate academic and social-emotional support programming for high school students including:
    • Track academic progress of students and updating student database records
    • Manage a caseload of high school students including academic progress tracking, coaching, in person visits at their high school and at Nativity, as well as virtual check ins
    • Work with Director of Graduate Support to communicate with parents regarding the students’ academic progress and challenges as needed
    • Host after school programming for high priority students

       

  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of alumni events such as the alumni basketball tournament, and other alumni social events
  • Communicate effectively with Nativity faculty and staff, parents, students, and external partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Characteristics

  • A desire to work with middle school and high school aged students to help them reach their academic potential and to support their varying needs
  • Knowledge of Milwaukee-area college-prep high schools
  • Ability to cultivate and nurture trusting relationships with students and adults
  • Deadline-driven, organized, and goal-oriented
  • Self-starter and able to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the changing needs of students
  • The ability to speak Spanish is preferred
  • High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
