Maintenance Mechanic

The Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center, located in St. Francis, Wisconsin, is the main office for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The archdiocese covers 10 counties in Southeast Wisconsin and includes almost 200 parishes and over 100 Catholic Schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Maintenance coordinator in keeping the MMCPC in a safe and well-kept manner. Repair and troubleshoot all HVAC, boilers, heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment, electrical, computer, and plumbing on the grounds at the MMCPC, Archbishop's residence, other various Archdiocesan properties and other locations as assigned.
  • Performs all phases of maintenance on all equipment & buildings and all troubleshooting
  • Repair and install plumbing
  • Carpentry work when needed
  • Pull cables and add new equipment and sensors to the system
  • Responds to 24-hour- emergency for all emergencies on a rotating schedule
  • Perform key control-re-pinning of locks
  • Key cutting and basic lock repair
  • Perform minor construction and painting work as needed
  • Perform snow shoveling using snow removal equipment

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and skills to repair and trouble shoot electrical equipment, pneumatic, and electrical controls
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely
  • Small engine repair knowledge and skills
  • Basic plumbing repair skills
  • Can use an energy management computer
  • Able to make independent and effective decisions
  • Skills in painting and minor building construction
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and follow safe practices

Education, Training, and/or Experience:

  • High school graduate preferred, with additional training in electrical repairs, HVAC repairs, plumbing repairs, and general repair techniques
  • Training in operation and repairs of boilers. Boiler license preferred or ability to secure a boilers license
  • Apprenticeship in building maintenance with three to five years of experience

Working Environment: The primary location of the work is indoors, with infrequent work outdoors to perform exterior building and property tasks. There is frequent use of ladders and scaffolding, standing and walking for extended periods (6-8 hours), kneeling, bending, twisting while holding work supplies and equipment. Occasional on-call duties during the week and on weekends with work outside of normal work hours. Working with hazardous chemicals, machinery, and high voltage. Exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures in an outside environment. Regularly lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds. Travel within the work area. A valid driver's license is required.

Compensation and Benefits: 

This position is a full-time position working in person at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Pastoral Center.
