Position Overview

Saint Jude the Apostle Parish is a caring, welcoming, and engaged Catholic community of believers in Christ that promotes growth in faith through fellowship, ministry, education, and service to those in need. 

The full time Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for general maintenance, repairs and custodial work of the St. Jude the Apostle Parish campus, including electrical, plumbing, boilers/HVAC, buildings, and green space. The Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for some aspects of custodial work at the parish.  This position supervises other maintenance staff, custodial staff, and contractors.  This is a working supervisor position, meaning the position should expect to perform some of the duties themselves. 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and refrigeration systems, lawns, parking lots, and playgrounds. Use outside contractors as appropriate to complete maintenance.
  • Spend time on routine inspection, minor repairs, and other preventative maintenance duties, including maintaining preventative maintenance records.
  • Maintain the safety and security systems for facilities, including the fire alarm, fire prevention systems, elevators, etcetera.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Administrative Services, maintain the maintenance services budget as adopted by the Finance Council. Provide required information needed for budget preparation.
  • Regularly attend meetings of the building & grounds committee to provide guidance and expertise on building and grounds maintenance.
  • Solicit bids for work from outside contractors as needed and recommend selection of contractors to Director of Administrative Services and/or building & grounds committee.
  • Supervise the work of outside contractors.
  • Purchase and maintain a cost-effective inventory of supplies.
  • Complete daily rounds and inspections, such as locking/unlocking doors and turning on/off lights.
  • Responsible for maintenance of parish grounds, including trash/recycling, snow/ice removal in partnership with outside contractor, and grass cutting and trimming.
  • Coordinate the set up and take down of furniture and other items for special events. Occasionally attend special events on an as needed basis to provide maintenance support.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the buildings and grounds, regularly instructing and monitoring the work of a third party cleaning company. May perform cleaning duties on an as needed basis.
  • Coordinate volunteers who complete planting and maintenance of planting beds.
  • Oversee compliance with hazardous materials training, blood borne pathogens training, as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demand Levels

  • Medium (0-50 lbs).  Physical Requirements list is available.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Maintenance experience required. Knowledge of facility management preferred.
  • Supervisor experience preferred.
  • Willingness to work with others in a kind, caring, collaborative, and efficient manner.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, and trouble shooting skills.
  • Understanding of plumbing, mechanical, and/or electrical systems preferred.
  • Ability to take direction and work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, squat, bend, and reach above shoulders throughout the day.
  • Comply with OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Successful completion of Safeguarding God’s Children class, background check, and criminal background check. 

Supervision Exercised

  • Supervises workload and outcomes for outside cleaning contractors(s), but does not supervise personnel issues.
  • Maintenance Assistant (part time)

Supervision Received

  • Supervised by the Director of Administrative Services.
  • Will take direction from other staff as appropriate, including Principal and Pastor. 

 

Additional Information 

Manages time efficiently and adjusts work scheduled as needs and situations arise. Sporadic weekend and evening work for emergencies and special events.
