Summary
The primary function of this position is to promote and champion the parish/school mission through the “Intentional Disciple-Making Ministry” in collaboration with other staff. The Pastoral Care Assistant works closely with the Pastor to ensure that the pastoral needs of the parish are met.
Job Description
Sacramental
- Respond to sacramental inquiries.
- Ensure sacramental records are entered and processed correctly. Responds to requests for sacramental records.
- As requested, schedules sacramental liturgies including weddings and funerals on behalf of the Pastor. Maintain a checklist to the various parts and selections of the service for each family/couple.
- Communicate to ministries in a timely manner (e.g. presiders, acolyte, music, resurrection, and/or video ministries).
- Prepare materials as needed, including but not limited to supplies, slide preparation, or certificate(s).
- Assist administrative team with Mass Intentions software in processing sacramental fees.
- For funerals, process endowment orders for plaques, gold leaves or stones as ordered by parishioners or their families including proof approval and timely receipt of product. Provide reporting and deposits for finance.
- Coordinate funeral hospitality held at the parish as needed or as scheduled on behalf of families.
Pastoral Care
- Ensure a prompt and compassionate response to the sick, homebound, bereaved, and suffering to the lost, least and lonely.
- Staff liaison to pastoral care and social action ministries to provide guidance and resources to ensure alignment of the parish/school mission with the needs of the community.
- Provides communication of parish pastoral care to encourage participation. Includes bulletin, website, parish/school communication networks.
- Works with the Pastor to review, evaluate, and develop programs, long- and short-range goals and objectives that grow disciples in the mission of the parish/school. Develop and implement pastoral care programs and initiatives that serve the needs of the faithful.
- Assist in the recruitment, formation, and training of pastoral care volunteers.
- Serve as a liaison between the parish and other organizations involved in pastoral care, such as hospitals and nursing homes.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of pastoral care activities and services.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities.
- Maintains expenses within the established Pastoral Care ministry budget working with finance.
- Part of the team within the parish office provides back up support to administrate staff within the parish office.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education, Training, and/or Experience Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively with participants, coworkers, volunteers, vendors, or contractors.
- Detail-oriented, with exceptional time management skills, and self-motivated with ability to take initiative, problem solve and multi-task.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database software.
- Ability to talk about one’s personal relationship with Jesus and love of the Catholic Church.
- Active Catholic participating in the life of the church.
- Commitment to ongoing spiritual growth desired.
- Understanding of servant leadership, discipleship, and disciple-making principles desired.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in theology or religious studies and or experience working in Catholic Church environment preferred.
- Having completed or willing to complete the Safeguarding All God's Children certification class
