Summary

The Safety and Security Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors at Catholic Memorial High School. Working under the direction of the Principal and Dean of Students, this position helps maintain campus safety through active supervision of school grounds, hallways, common areas, and parking lots, while building positive relationships with students, families, staff, and the public. The ideal candidate is committed to supporting school expectations, enforcing all building rules and policies, specifically our closed campus policy and all parking lot regulations, and providing guidance and support that contributes to a secure school community. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by school administration to support the overall safety and well-being of the school.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Supports

  • Build meaningful relationships with all students
  • Implement student support and safety plans, behavior and support plans
  • Connect students to the student services department when they require additional support
  • Provide direct support to individual students who require behavior management support

School Safety

  • Participate in fire, tornado, evacuation and other school safety drills; reflect, give feedback, and support implementation of new strategies designed to promote school safety
  • Support administrators in investigating behavior incidents as the school’s “expert” in reviewing and saving CCTV footage
  • Ensure proper functioning of all school safety equipment; address and/or report incidents of failure

Supervision and Mobile Behavior Response

  • Welcome and screen all visitors to the campus. Provide access to the building through the telecommunication system.
  • Monitor, supervise, deescalate, problem-solve and/or redirect student activity throughout various areas of the school’s campus including parking lots, school grounds, hallways, stairwells, doorways, classrooms, storage areas, bathrooms and other on or off-site locations as directed
  • Respond to / intervene in unsafe incidents, using conflict management strategies
  • Identify and address those who are unauthorized to be on the school’s campus
  • Supervise at school sponsored events and activities
  • Monitor CCTV, record incidents and save in appropriate drive
  • Respond to request for behavior supports, at the level(s) indicated in a collaboratively developed and communicated behavior response system
  • Recognize potential threats or safety risks and consult with Dean of students and/or Principal in charge of safety and security to mitigate the threat or risk.
  • Lead security operations related to the Welcome Center, including checking in guests, maintaining a log, notifying appropriate staff of arrivals, and answering phones and directing calls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Medical Response

  • Serve as a member of the school’s medical emergency response team
  • Render first aid, CPR, or other medical intervention, as trained and when appropriate

Operations

  • Report and document incidents as directed by the administration
  • Assist in the completion of investigations collaborating and cooperating with school administration and law enforcement
  • Maintain a daily log of activities including a contact record and documentation of observations
  • Check and respond to emails, phone calls and (reply to) voicemails daily

 

Qualifications:

  1. Ideal candidate would have law-enforcement or security experience
  2. School Resource Officer training is a plus
  3. Verbal communication skills, including MS Office Suite capabilities
  4. Listening, professionalism, customer focus and organization
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information
  6. Commitment to the CMH mission.
  7. Proper completion of Safe-Guarding certification or willing to obtain certification prior to start date
  8. Bilingual abilities are a plus
