St. Kilian School is seeking a faith-filled, creative, and mission-driven Art Teacher to join our faculty. As a Catholic school committed to academic excellence and the formation of the whole child, we seek an educator who understands that art is a pathway to discovering truth, goodness, and beauty. Position Overview
The Art Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate visual arts instruction for students in grades K5–8. The teacher will foster creativity, artistic expression, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for beauty while supporting the mission and culture of the school.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction & Program Development
- Plan and implement engaging art lessons that develop artistic skills and creativity.
- Teach foundational elements and principles of art, including drawing, painting, sculpture, design, and other media.
- Introduce students to significant artists, artistic movements, and the role of art in culture and faith.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of all learners.
- Assess student growth and provide meaningful feedback on artistic development.
- Organize, maintain, and responsibly manage art supplies, materials, and studio spaces.
- Display and celebrate student artwork throughout the school and community.
Student Formation & School Culture
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages creativity, curiosity, diligence, and respect.
- Promote habits of attentiveness, craftsmanship, perseverance, and pride in quality work.
- Encourage students to see beauty as a reflection of God's creation and a means of expressing truth.
- Establish clear expectations and consistent routines that support student success.
Catholic Identity
- Support and strengthen the Catholic mission of the school.
- Model Christian virtues and professional conduct.
- Integrate sacred art, beauty, and the artistic traditions of the Church when appropriate.
- Help students recognize the connection between creativity, human dignity, and the gifts God has given them.
- Encourage service, leadership, and gratitude through artistic expression.
Collaboration & Professionalism
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to support the school's mission and culture.
- Participate in school events, art showcases, and community celebrations.
- Maintain positive communication with parents and families.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
- Demonstrate professionalism consistent with the values of St. Kilian Catholic School.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate a passion for art education and working with children.
- Possess strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Understand best practices in visual arts instruction and child development.
- Appreciate the role of beauty and creativity within a Catholic classical education.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Work collaboratively as part of a small, mission-focused faculty.
- Support the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Wisconsin teaching license (or ability to obtain licensure).
- Art Education certification preferred.
- Prior teaching experience preferred but not required.
- Compliance with all Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements and child protection protocols.
Compensation & Employment Details
- Position: Part-Time Art Teacher
- Location: St. Kilian Catholic School, Hartford, WI
- Supervisor: Principal
- Employment Status: Part-Time
- Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, talk, and hear.
- Ability to lift and move art supplies and materials up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students in classroom and project-based settings.
- Ability to use standard technology and communication tools.
