The Diaconate

Are you a Catholic man active in your faith and parish? Looking to go deeper to serve the Church, your family and the world? You may be called to a vocation to the Diaconate! If you or a loved one are discerning whether to be a deacon, contact Archdiocese of Milwaukee Diaconate Formation to learn more!

Are you called to be a Deacon?

The process of discernment for the diaconate begins long before any formal contact with Diaconate Formation. Those considering the diaconate first should reflect on their qualifications and decide whether they are suited to serve.

We recommend those exploring the diaconate to:
  • Make discernment part of your daily prayer.
  • Discuss this with your spouse and/or significant people in your life.
  • Discuss this with your pastor and parish staff.
  • Contact a deacon or deacon couple to hear their story and share yours.
  • Read about the theology of the Diaconate.
  • Use the admissions criteria as a guideline for your discernment, then contact the diaconate office to discuss your interest and determine your readiness to apply.
