This event is for men and their wives who are discerning a vocation to the diaconate. The diaconate is the first of three ordained ranks of Holy Orders (bishops, presbyters, and deacons) in the Catholic Church, derived from the Greek diakonia, meaning "service". Deacons represent Christ the Servant through a threefold mission of Word (preaching/teaching), Liturgy (serving at Mass/sacraments), and Charity (outreach).
