Building Bridges Presenation: Ms. Frances Dobbs:
Frances Dobbs is a freshman at Marquette University and a graduate from St. Thomas More High School. In 2016, she traveled to Musanze, Rwanda to set up a library for a local Christian school. Before her trip, she was able to collect over 1,100 books and donations at various churches and her high school. Through her journey at different churches, she raised awareness about the educational needs of Rwanda. By the grace of God, she was able to bring eight suitcases with her to Rwanda. After her return, she passionately continued to share new knowledge about Rwanda. In the spring of 2017, she obtained her Girl Scout Gold Award. Then in the fall of 2017, she was also honored with the John Paul II Youth Award. Through this award, she has received the opportunity to be on the board for the Office for World Mission and the Society of the Propaganda of the Faith for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. She hopes to continue raising awareness and building relationships with her brothers and sisters in the global church.\
Being Present Presentation: Sr. Mary Theonilla Chukwu, IHM:
Sister Mary Theonilla Chukwu is a Religious Sister of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ (IHM). She earned her undergraduate Diploma in education from Alvan Ikoku College of Education in Nigeria and served as an educator, hostel director, finance manager, school principal, pastoral counselor in prisons and universities, and Director of Sisters in Temporal Vows in Nigeria and Ghana, respectively, before coming to the United States in 2003.
She continued her education in the U.S. and holds an Associate degree in Sociology from Highland Community College, a Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame of Maryland, and both an Education Specialist Post Graduate degree (Ed.S.) and a Masters Degree in Professional Counseling (Mental Health) from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. As a United States student, she engaged in services for St. Vincent Center for Abused and Exploited Children and for Carrington House (a narcotic recovery facility for men) in Maryland.
In New Jersey, she initiated mental health counseling for ex-offenders, facilitating re-integration of ex-offenders into society, and served at the Psychiatric Acute Hospital and Outpatient Units of Trinitas Medical Center.
She has also worked as a Director of Religious Education (DRE) and as a Music Director and served as Councilor in the IHM Sisters’ North American leadership team from 2008 until she was elected Regional Superior in 2012.
In 2013, she initiated the prospect of establishing the Madonna Renewal Center Mission to serve pregnant women who face the challenges of unprepared motherhood, thereby championing the cause for women in a bid to help break the cycle of victimhood and vulnerability. She is presently the IHM Sisters North American Regional Superior and directs every facet of Madonna Renewal Center (MRC), Mission as President.
In recognition of their years of service to the global mission of the Church, we will present two missionaries with awards that were named in honor of two women who likewise dedicated themselves to mission.
- The Frances Cunningham Bridge Builder Award is presented to a woman who sees each encounter as an opportunity to connect while sharing the Gospel of Christ.
2018 Recipient: Pam Lownik
- The Rosemary Huddleston Being Present Award is presented to a woman who is willing to identify with and accompany individuals building solidarity with and for causes that impact human dignity.
2018 Recipient: Sister Johannes Klas, OSF
