Other Suggestions for Mission Week Activities

These activities may be done at another time or in place of one of the other suggested daily activities.

These can be implemented in addition to the activities described previously, or if you find one below that will fit your classroom or lesson plans better, please use it! We would like to hear about any mission activity that you do during this week that highlights our theme. Remember to email us your story to be entered into our drawing!

  • Invite a missionary to talk in your classroom about his/her experience in another country
  • Invite students at your school who have had mission experiences, both international and local, to organize a brown bag lunch for discussion in the cafeteria- how did it impact them, how do they see the image of a place at the table for all? For those attending, what does it mean to share a place at the table?
  • Have your own Mission Mass and include special petitions and music that highlights our theme
  • Have an exercise to see how little food waste you can produce that week during lunch or get the whole family involved and have them track any waste at home
  • Create a school-wide or program-wide pledge about solidarity and inviting all to the table.
  • Use passages and reflect on the Bishops document: A Place at the Table.

If you have any questions regarding Mission Week 2012 or our suggested activities, or if you would like someone from the Mission Office or Mission Educators team to be present at your school that week to take part in an activity, please contact Elizabeth Howayeck at howayecke@archmil.org or 414-758-2283.
