Urban Ministry

Urban Ministry strives to provide a transformative Catholic presence in urban Milwaukee through social justice initiatives rooted in meaningful accompaniment and solidarity. Even though we might not solve the problems of poverty, racism or violence in our community, we must address them as witnesses to Jesus’ mission. We do this:

Through Relationships

  • Connect existing groups and resources to the needs of the urban community.
  • Educate and provide opportunities for authentic encounter and relationship between diverse parishes and peoples.
  • Work towards building a community of authentic solidarity across lines of race, socio-economic status, and geography.
  • Work towards uniting people toward everyday action focused on social justice.

Through Projects

  • Support the mission of the Franciscan Peacemakers.
  • Envision and lead an Urban Center that supports and elevates our Catholic Presence in the city. This center will be a caring community of healing service and transformative formation.
  • Provide support for the Tolton Catholic Scholars program.
  • Pro-life/Social Justice presentations to parishes and the broader community.
  • Confronting Racism education resources.

Through Increased Urban Community Relations

  • Attend neighborhood and community meetings.
  • Meet with urban leaders on behalf of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and those we serve.
  • Coordinate Deacon led Catholic Emergency Response Team (CERT) and work on the Catholic Emergency Fund and CCHD Fund committees.
  • Collaboratively work on advocacy issues.
