The Vatican announced February 24th that Pope Benedict XVI appointed Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan as the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of New York. Archbishop Dolan will remain as Archbishop of Milwaukee until Wednesday, April 15, when he will be installed as Archbishop of New York during a Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.
The following public farewell events are planned:
- March 29 – 2 p.m. Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, followed by a receiving line and a reception in the Cathedral Atrium.
- March 22 – 12:30 p.m. Mass in the main church on the third level at The Basilica of Holy Hill, 1515 Carmel Rd., Hubertus, with permanent deacons and their wives, religious brothers and sisters, parish directors and parish leaders.
Other private farewell events are scheduled for archdiocesan priests and seminarians.
Archbishop Dolan was appointed Archbishop of Milwaukee on June 25, 2002, and was installed as the tenth Archbishop of Milwaukee on August 28, 2002.
