Position Overview

The Director of Safe Environment is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safe environment programs to ensure the protection and well-being of all individuals within the organization. This leadership role involves overseeing compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to safety and abuse prevention, fostering a culture of safety, and providing training and resources to staff, volunteers, and stakeholders. You must be able to work in person at our Main Campus in St. Francis, WI. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor safe environment policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate and conduct training programs on abuse prevention, reporting protocols, and safe environment practices for employees, volunteers, and leadership.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safe environment concerns, including receiving and responding to reports of abuse or misconduct.
  • Ensure compliance with background screening requirements and maintain accurate records of screenings and trainings.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to promote a safe and respectful environment.
  • Lead investigations related to safe environment issues, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to legal and ethical standards.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory bodies and organizational leadership.
  • Stay current on best practices, legal requirements, and emerging trends in safe environment and abuse prevention.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Education, Public Administration, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
  • Catholic able to partake in the sacramental life of the church is required, well-grounded in and loyal to Catholic teaching
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in child protection, abuse prevention, compliance, or related areas
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding abuse prevention and mandatory reporting
  • Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting software

Compensation and Benefits:

The position is a full-time (40 hours per week), salaried position working in-person at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Pastoral Center. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee provides a full scope of employment benefits, including medical, dental, vision, flextime, Catholic school tuition assistance for children of employees, 403b, and a pension program. 

Occasional weekend and evening work is required, as well as travelling in own vehicle within the archdiocese. Valid driver's license and vehicle required. Occasional need to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
