Vatican's Extraordinary Synod on Marriage and Family: October 2014
Pope Francis has called for an Extraordinary Synod to be convened in October 2014. The focus of the Synod is Marriage and Family. Archbishop Lorenzo Baldisseri, General Secretary of the Synod, distributed to the bishops of the world, a preparatory document entitled “Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelization” which concludes with a series of questions. These questions allow the local Churches to participate actively in the preparation of the Extraordinary Synod, whose purpose is to proclaim the Gospel in light of the pastoral challenges facing the family today. Bishops were encouraged to seek consultation on these questions. You are encouraged to read the preparatory document for the context of the questions. It can be accessed at this link: http://bit.ly/1b3CtST
The preparatory document, in addition to providing summaries of the Church’s teaching on marriage and family, also acknowledges the pastoral challenges which the current culture and social milieu impose on the presentation of these teachings.
The questions at the end of the preparatory document have been written in a more accessible survey form. You may access the survey at this link:

There is a limited response time. In order for the Archdiocese to gather the information and forward it to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the deadline for responding to the survey is December 15, 2013.
