2nd Grade Teacher

JOB PURPOSE: To provide students with an exceptional learning experience, ensuring achievement of their maximum potential, and facilitating their knowledge of the Catholic tradition and growth in their spiritual lives.

PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Professional Classroom Duties

  • Provides learning experiences in language arts, reading, social studies, mathematics, science, and religion to students using course of study adopted by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the school, along with other appropriate activities
  • Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities
  • Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and helps students make a satisfactory transition to school
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the natural informal atmosphere of a 2nd grade classroom
  • Integrates literacy into content area instruction
  • Enhances content instruction with a thorough understanding of Archdiocesan and State content standards
  • Collects data on individual student achievement and is knowledgeable about student electronic database and grading software
  • Maintains records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations in a timely and confidential manner
  • Accepts accountability for each child’s learning
  • Reviews and applies individualized education programs, individual literacy plans, or advance learning plans
  • Inform the Principal of situations that should be brought to his/her attention

Supervisory Duties

  • Ensures the classroom is supervised at all times when students are present
  • Supervises the arrival and dismissal of students
  • Supervises students during the celebration of Mass and other liturgical celebrations and assemblies
  • Supervises students going to and returning from specials classes, lunch, emergency drills, and assemblies
  • Supervises, as the schedule directs, recess and lunch periods in the school day
  • Assumes responsibility for supervision of students when assigned by the Principal

General Classroom Maintenance

  • Sees that tables, shelves, and cabinets are in order and supervises the general daily picking up of the classroom so as to maintain a focused learning environment
  • Keeps bulletin boards current and attractive
  • Requires students to keep coat areas/lockers neat and in order throughout the day

Parents and Students

  • Communicates with parents so as to ensure that parents are fully aware of the religious, academic, and social progress being made by their children
  • Maintains positivity and professionalism in all parent and student contacts
  • Attends all parent-teacher conferences

Additional Activities

  • Plans student field trips I
  • nforms the Principal and other teachers affected of any plans that will differ from the typical daily schedule
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff when planning special programs/projects

Professional Development

  • Attends faculty and other meetings as called by the Principal
  • Attends Archdiocesan and other professional development activities as assigned by the Principal
  • Independently maintains body of knowledge on topics relevant to position

Qualifications

Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a certified College or University

Valid Wisconsin Teaching License

Complete the required background criminal records check

Meet the requirements for religious instruction as established by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee within five (5) years of initial employment

Maintain a constant updating of academic and religious requirements as required by the Wisconsin DPI and Archdiocese of Milwaukee. These updates should be discussed with and approved by the Principal.

Display and practice the Christian values expected of Catholic educators.

Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with parents, students, and staff Possess excellent organizational and communications skills

Demonstrate computer and technology proficiency
