Art Teacher

JOB PURPOSE:

To develop an appreciation of art in each student, while helping students to develop their God-given artistic abilities and interests. 

PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Professional Educational Duties

  • Teach knowledge and skills in art, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and/or three-dimensional art to students using the course of study adopted by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the school, along with other appropriate learning activities
  • Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art

  • Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and/or teacher-prepared instructional aids

  • Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment

  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize time required for distribution and collection

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the art classroom

  • Collects data on individual student achievement and is knowledgeable about student electronic database and grading software

  • Maintains records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations in a timely and confidential manner

  • Accepts accountability for each child’s learning

  • Inform the Principal of situations that should be brought to his/her attention

 

Supervisory Duties

  • Ensures the art classroom is supervised at all times when students are present

  • Parents and Students

  • Communicates with parents so as to ensure that parents are fully aware of the religious, academic, and social progress being made by their children

  • Maintains positivity and professionalism in all parent and student contacts

  • Attends all parent-teacher conferences

 

Professional Development

  • Attends faculty and other meetings as called by the Principal

  • Attends Archdiocesan and other professional development activities as assigned by the Principal

  • Independently maintains body of knowledge on topics relevant to position 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a certified College or University, with art major or minor

  • Appropriate, valid Wisconsin Teaching License

  • Complete the required background criminal records check

  • Meet the requirements for religious instruction as established by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee within five (5) years of initial employment

  • Maintain a constant updating of academic and religious requirements as required by the Wisconsin DPI and Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  These updates should be discussed with and approved by the Principal.

  • Display and practice the Christian values expected of Catholic educators.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with parents, students, and staff

  • Possess excellent organizational and communications skills

  • Demonstrate computer and technology proficiency
