Director of Finance

Job Summary

The Director of Finance reports to and will work closely with the President. The role will also partner with the school’s Board of Directors and senior staff including the Principal, Vice President of Advancement, and Director of Admissions. This critical role is responsible for all financial aspects of the school’s operations including accounting, payroll, budgeting and financial reporting. The job also oversees the campus maintenance function at the school.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Accounting and Business Operations

  • Oversee all aspects of Pius XI’s accounting and financial reporting systems and related policies and procedures. Ensure effective internal accounting controls are in place with all facets of the school’s business operations.
  • Ensure the accurate and consistent recording and timely reporting of financial and accounting data
  • Conduct financial analysis and interpret results of operations to identify areas requiring additional focus and attention
  • Work closely with the Business Manager who is responsible for general accounting functions such as recordkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, preparing financial statements, filing and correspondence. This role also assists in maintaining the integrity of financial reporting and adherence to sound financial policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Tuition and Financial Aid Manager who is responsible for the administration of the Private School Choice programs, financial aid, tuition billing and collection. Ensure the Private School Choice Program is conducted in full compliance with the rules and regulations of DPI.
  • Prepare for and work closely with the school’s auditing firm(s) to ensure the timely and accurate completion of the financial, private school choice program and 403(b) audit requirements
  • Responsible for all activities regarding the General Ledger.

 

Budget and Financial Reporting

  • Working closely with the President, Principal and other school leaders, oversee the annual budgeting process:
  • Develop sound revenue assumptions for enrollment, tuition assistance and advancement revenue
  • Assist instructional and administrative departments by providing forms, assumptions, projections, and consultations;
  • Generate projections for income and expense accounts to include developing recommendations for salary and benefits
  • Present the annual budget to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Prepare budget-to-actual monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements including explanations for significant variances to be reviewed with school leadership and the Finance Committee. Identify significant trends, policies and strategies that will enhance overall accountability and operating efficiency
  • Create long-range financial forecasts.

 

Payroll and Insurance

  • Work closely with the Director of Administration to oversee Human Resource programs including compensation, benefits, and annual performance reviews
  • Monitor and ensure the school is compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring Pius XI offers a comprehensive and affordable benefit package including medical insurance, dental and vision programs
  • Conducts research and analysis of secondary school compensation trends

 

Maintenance and Theater

  • Works with Director of Maintenance to provide for the proper and safe operating maintenance of the campus
  • Works with the Theater Manager to ensure the Pius XI Performing Arts Center is properly operated and maintained

 

Board Committee Assignments

  • Finance Committee
  • Endowment Fund Committee
  • 403(b) Committee
  • Ad Hoc Task Forces as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five or more years of successful experience in financial administration
  • MBA degree or CPA license preferred but not necessary
  • Familiarity with financial management of not-for-profit operations a plus
  • A strong belief in the benefits of urban Catholic secondary education
  • Be known for a professional disposition and collaborative approach
  • Possess strong verbal and written communications skills
